United CPN (Maoist) throws its weigh behind FNCCI
The main opposition, Unified CPN (Maoist), has assured the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) that as the largest party it would help the business sector in every possible manner. During an interaction between the Maoists and the FNCCI representatives, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that his party believed the FNCCI should be given exclusive right to distribute CoOs to its members.
The two apex associations of the private sector, the FNCCI and the CNI (Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), have been locking horns over the issue of CoO.
The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies on May 22 had granted the CNI the right of Certificate of Origin CoO issuance for Nepali exports to third countries. Till then, the right was exclusively reserved by the FNCCI and the organisations under it. The government also entitled the Trade and Export Promotion Centre to issue CoO for exports to India. The FNCCI has been issuing certificates of origin for exports to India for the last 30 years.
On the occasion, vice president of UPCPN (Maoist) Dr Baburam Bhattarai underlined the need to transform the financial capital into industrial one in order to expedite the development of productive sectors.
Dr Bhattarai, who is also former finance minister, also said that that there should be national consensus to counter frequent strikes in order to facilitate industrial growth.source:nepalnews.com
